Manuela Spinelli has been working for DCU Language Services as a Conference Interpreter for almost 10 years. During her time working as an interpreter in Ireland, Manuela has raised the profile of what is usually quite a 'behind the scenes' profession, through her role working as interpreter to the Italian manager of Ireland's football team, Mr Giovanni Trapattoni. In this role, Manuela is often seen by Trapattoni's side interpreting for him at press conferences and events.

In addition to working in this positition, Manuela, along with our other experienced conference interpreters, works at various other conferences and events for other high-profile clients in Ireland and abroad throughout the year. As a result, despite being seen to be on the sidelines, working as an interpreter can be a very exciting,  demanding and challenging profession, often involving working alongside high profile clients and in front of the media's watchful eyes.

In this video, Manuela speaks to the Post-Primary Languages Initiative, Ireland, who support foreign languages education at second level, about the importance of learning a different language and the opportunities that language skills can bring, both professionally and personally. Apart from excellent career prospects, such as allowing for a career as a professional translator or interpreter, language skills can lend to a certain 'sense of belonging' with other cultures. Essentially….. "More Languages, More Options".
